These dolls are China head dolls, #4 is approximately 14" tall and #5 is approximately 12" tall. In 1992 the china arms and lower china legs were replaced on both dolls. Then in 2006 both dolls, which had originally been filled wih grain, were destroyed by weavals and were replaced. These dolls are from the 1890 period with painted black hair and painted blue eyes.
The above dolls were orginally dressed identially, cometimes this done if they were owned by sisters or twins. The original dress, shown here, were saved and the dolls redressed in period blue ball gowns, again, identical gowns.
