Among the early teddy bear makers of distinction was the Knickerbocker Toy Company. This company had headquarters in New York and later in New Jersey. They used good quality mohair and paws were frequently of velveteen.

Anyone with a "Knickerbocker" in their ancestry will spot a Knickerbocker toy from a distance.

One of America's famous bears was, "Smokey the Forest Ranger, " and the Knickerbocker Company was among those companies which created a version of Smokey.

Now there is a new company, "the Knickerbocker Bear Company" in California which is making the collection of "New Generation Bears", each one a limited edition.
