Teddy Ruxpin and his friend Grubby are talking animals which were created by Ken Forsee. They were first produced by toy manufacturer Worlds of Wonder. Teddy would move his mouth and eyes as he read stories by means of a cassette tape deck which was imbedded in his lower back. His companion was a toy named Grubby. Grubby and Teddy could be connected with a small cable which allowed the two to have some coordinated speech and limited actions. In 1985 when Teddy and Grubby were created they made headlines in the toy stores and often were out of stock during the Christmas season. The toy company flourished and they were able to market books, cassette tapes, special clothing for Teddy as well as some other non-animated companion toys. The company's success turned to failure in 1987 when there was a stock market correction and the company was forced into bankruptcy in 1988. By 1991 the company was sold and later picked up by Playskool. The items that are in this collection all date back to the period from 1985 until 1987. We hope you enjoy this Worlds of Wonder toy as much as many children did when it was originally produced. |
