The Porsgrund porcelain factory of Norway made its first Christmas plate in 1909. They made only one plate and discontinued production until 1968 when it gave the tradition new life. Since then there has been a new one each year, and the number of collectors has increased. Collecting Christmas plates is a joy even to non-collectors as it serves as a decorative function in the home. Most Christmas plates from Porsgrund have a nativity scene from the biblical story of Christmas.
