A large part of the Zuni Jewelry industry is the making of hand made fetishes from turquoise abalony, agate, serpentine, and mother-of-pearl, principally in the form of bears or birds. Shown are three stands of fetishes of three lengths to be worn together or separately. longest strand - 24 bears, next longest - 23 birds and 1 bear. These two strands were hand carved from turquoise with turquoise heshie and pin shells between each by Sam Delena of the Zuni tribe. The matching pair of earrings, each having one bird was also made by Sam Delena. |

The third and shortest strand of characters has 30 birds and was hand carved by George Cheechee, a Zuni. This strand was carved from agate, serpentine, and mother-of-pearl with turquoise heshie and pin shells between the characters. These fetiches were all purchased at Inverson's Indian Arts and Crafts in Scottsdale, AZ, in June of 1988. |

Pettipoint, needlepont and inlay art, the most intricate of all silver and turquoise jewelry, are a specialty of the Zuni Tribe in New Mexico. The turquoise channel inlay bracelet and earrings were hand made by a member of the Zuni tribe and the bracelet is signed STM. The set was purchased at Ortega's Gift Shop in Silverton, Colorado, in May 1988. |

The pair of needlepoint dangling earrings are made with sets of turquoise set in sterling silver. They were hand made by Filmer Lalio, a Zuni silversmith living in Glendale AZ. They were purchased at an Indian Fair in Mesa, AZ in March of 1987. |
